Pastor Carter addresses Questions on
CHRISTMAS
Some say Christmas is really a secular holiday. In fact, some believe Jesus Christ was not even born on December 25. They even say, if it were in fact winter then shepherds would not have been out in the field with their flocks, and that there were more than 3 wise men. If it's not really when Christ was born, why are Christians so worried about keeping "Christ" in Christmas?
Regardless of whether the date is accurate or not, whether there were 3 wise men or 30 and whether they were from the orient or Iraq, whether there was snow or sunshine, whether there were shepherds in the field in the winter or not.... it's simply a time that has been traditionally set aside to commemorate the birth of our Lord.
At least there IS a time set aside to honor His birth. What He did on Calvary wouldn't have even been possible if He had not honored His own laws of earthly entry by being born through the womb of a woman. I'm thankful there is a time that has been set aside to recognize that. It's better than if there were no time set aside at all to reflect on the fact that God came in the flesh to save us from our sins.
Saying "Merry Christmas" may be tradition, yes. But it's one of the few good one's we have left in our post-religious, modernized, secular society that's politically correct enough to recognize Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Ramadan, but quick to silence Christians and days set aside to recognize Christ.
