Pastor Carter addresses Questions on
TEMPTATION:  OVERCOMING IT!

I have a sin that I just can't stop.  It has been my impression that if a person has enough will power to remove the thing causing the sin, then that's deliverance.  If I remove the things that bring temptations and cause me to sin, like the television and the internet, am I delivered?

Firstly, remember that the Word of God gives us wise counsel to abstain from the very appearance of evil.  It's more difficult for the enemy to trap us if we haven't given him a place to do so.

Secondly, know that just removing yourself from situations that may have contributed to the temptation in the first place (though good that is) does not equate deliverance.  You have to get to the root of the problem, which is the sin that you choose to commit and not necessarily the vehicl through which it presents itself.

If you have someone in a ministerial position (pastor, associate pastor, an elder, deacon or other) that you trust and know beyond the shadow of doubt to be a man of God, ask them to believe with you for a true deliverance.  Allow them to lay their hands on you and rebuke the enemy that is influencing you.  Impartation, through the power of the Holy Ghost and the laying on of hands, is just as real as the impartation of evil spirits through television, internet, books, magazines, personal relationships and out-of-control emotions.  The only difference is that the power of God is much greater than the power of the enemy, and the enemy MUST bow his knee to the Lordship of Christ.  Whether the enemy wants to bow or not is not the issue.  He doesn't have a say-so in the matter.  The power of God is omnipotent and the devil doesn't stand a chance against the command of a man of God who walks in the anointing, for the anointing breaks every yoke.

Finally, remember that to simply think the thought is not a sin, in and of itself.  It's the enemy's job to place those thoughts there.  The real battle, however, is in what you do with that thought once it enters your mind.  We can either choose to carry out the temptation, or we can choose to rebuke it in Jesus' name.  The Word says that we are to take captive every thought and imagination that exalts itself against the knowlege of God.  In simple terms, that means when the temptation comes - and it surely will - be ready to throw it down with the Word, with prayer and with praise.

I will be in agreement for your need, and believe with all my heart, deliverance and victory is YOURS in Jesus' name.
