The Light Still Shines
   A Christmas Devotion
    Pastor Chad Carter

The joy of the Christmas season is upon us once
again.  Beautifully decorated trees, bright lights and
pretty packages tell the tale of what is just around
the corner.  The smile and anticipation on the faces
of children grows bigger with each passing day.
On Decembe 25th, the long awaited morning will
arrive and everyone will celebrate another Christmas
morning having come and gone.

With all the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to forget the
reason we celebrate with family and friends.  Sadly, many in America have forgotten the significance and value of this "holy day" and substituted it with the materialistic expression of a common, secular "holiday."  By and large, Nativity scenes have been replaced with holiday super-sales and discounted prices, and the Baby Jesus has been relegated to sit alongside signs from atheists denying His divinity.  Things sure aren't the same as they used to be.

But friends, regardless of the progression of society or the gross darkness that blinds the eyes of many (Isa. 60:1-2), this one thing remains:  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8)!

The babe, born in a manger that first Christmas morn, did not stay there for long!  He, being well aware of His Heavenly Father’s plan, began to pursue His purpose in the earth.  He came with one goal in mind – to spoil the devil’s plan of defeat and redeem a fallen world back into a proper relationship with God.  “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8b).  I want to encourage you today!  Jesus came with the purpose of annihilating the works of the enemy in your life!

On that cold morning in a stable just outside of Bethlehem, God’s Gift of eternal life was born.  On a rocky hillside 33 years later, hanging between heaven and earth, that gift was purchased.  The price for Redemption was paid in full with the shed blood of God’s spotless Lamb.  Then three days later, that gift was forever sealed when the Lamb of God rose from the grave.  Now today, thousands of years later, the Light of Christ is still shining brightly for the world to see.  Men, women, boys and girls can still receive of the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, and receive the reward of a home in heaven!  What unmerited favor!  What hope and joy!

There is no gift that can be compared to the one we have received from God in the person of Jesus Christ.  But there is a gift we can give Him in celebration of His birth.  We can give Him our hearts.  That, after all, is what His gift to us was about.  Why don’t you give the Lord a gift this year – give Him your heart.  Then accept His gift to you in return.  I guarantee it would make this Christmas your best ever! 
