Shaping Our Future
Part 2: Seasons of Spinning
Pastor Chad Carter
"Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the
potter; we are all the work of your hand."
We are on the wheel of the Master Craftsman, and in times
when things seem blurry and out of focus, it is only because
we are spinning on His wheel.
We are not lost - we are not forgotten - we are not "out of control." God is ALWAYS in control, and eventually, we will come down off His wheel looking completely different than we did when He first placed us on it. He is the Potter. We are the clay. He knows what He's doing, so we simply must learn to trust Him. His is truly in control.
A lot of times, when we are lost in the season of spinning, we fear falling off and seeing the total loss of everything we have worked so hard for. It looks like a long, hard fall downward. But the Potter is helping is to see that His hands are steady and his grasp is secure. He won't let us fall off. He has us right where he wants us. We are completely safe in His care.
Our lives, like pottery, make sometimes get broken - shattered and fragmented beyond repair. Yet we are not serving a hobbyist with a little toy wheel in the corner of the garage. We serve the Great Potter, the Master Craftsman. He knows how to pick up what we view as shattered pieces, and re-shape it into something new and beautiful.
We may not have looked too good when we were first put upon His wheel. But God is in the business of leaving things in better shape than when He found them. It doesn't matter what it looks like now, for when He is finished with it, it will look better than ever. "He makes everything beautiful in His time" (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Lord, I pray for each one lost in a season of spinning. I pray that you would strengthen them and support them with your presence and love. I pray they sense your hand at work and that they can't get away from the overwhelming consciousness of your involvement in their lives. I pray that you bless them abundantly, and that whatever they set their hand to do is blessed. I pray that you will encourage their hearts to know that you are truly in control and everything will fall into line with your predetermined plan for them. We thank you for being the Potter, and us your willing, yielded clay - vessels in your hands - which you are using for the purpose of bringing glory to your name. In Jesus' name - amen!
